LingoLocal — Privacy Policy

Short version: LingoLocal has no accounts, no servers storing your data, and no trackers. Your learning progress stays in your own device's browser storage and is never sent to us or anyone else. The app never records your voice.

1. What the app stores

LingoLocal saves the following in your device's local storage (localStorage), on your device only:

Which phrases you have marked as learned
Each phrase's review schedule, used to decide what to practise next
Phrases you bookmark
Your practice streak (a count and the date you last practised)
Preferences: dark mode and transliteration display

This data never leaves your device. We cannot see it, and we cannot recover it for you. You can erase it by uninstalling the app or clearing this site's data in your browser.

2. What the app does not collect

No name, email, phone number, or account of any kind
No microphone access. The app plays phrases aloud and never records anything
No location, contacts, photos, files, or device identifiers
No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies

3. Network requests

The phrase audio is part of the app: it is downloaded once from this website when the app installs, and after that LingoLocal works offline. The app also loads its typefaces from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), which receives your IP address and browser details under Google's privacy policy. None of these requests contain anything about your learning. Like any website, the hosting provider (Cloudflare) records standard server logs such as IP address and time, used for delivery and abuse prevention.

4. Device speech

If a recorded clip is unavailable, the app asks your device's built-in text-to-speech to read the phrase. On some browsers those voices are provided online by the browser maker, in which case the phrase text (never anything you typed) is sent to them to be spoken, under their privacy policy.

5. Accuracy

LingoLocal is an independent learning aid. The audio is generated by a Kannada text-to-speech voice, not recorded by a native speaker, and translations are our best effort. Pronunciation and phrasing may differ from how people speak in your part of Bangalore.

6. Children

LingoLocal is a general-purpose learning tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal data from anyone.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date.
